The disorder known as erectile dysfunction (ED) is characterised by an inability to achieve or maintain an
erection strong enough for fulfilling sexual activity. ED may be a transient issue or a chronic one. When you
have ED, you can occasionally achieve an erection, but not every time you may feel intimate. This means
you are not always able to have satisfying or happy sex. According to recent epidemiologic studies, 10% of
men between the ages of 40 and 70 are thought to have severe or total erectile dysfunction. Men who are
overweight or obese can suffer from ED as it could be linked to a psychological issue such as low mood,
not feeling confident but also linked to health and diet.

Mounjaro may be useful in managing overweight men with erectile dysfunction. Weight loss improves the ability to maintain an erection as well as can improve self-esteem so Mounjaro can be used to help reach a healthy weight range. After the doctor reviews the patient in a consultation, it will determine if the patient is suitable to use the medication. The patient would start on the starter dose of 2.5mg if approved for Mounjaro.

Mounjaro works by mimicking the effects of two natural hormones, glucose-dependent insulinotropic
polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). These hormones help to control blood sugar levels by
increasing insulin secretion, slowing gastric emptying, and suppressing glucagon secretion.
Increasing insulin secretion: Mounjaro stimulates the release of insulin from the pancreas, which helps
lower blood sugar levels.
Slowing gastric emptying: Mounjaro slows down the movement of food from the stomach into the small
intestine, which helps you feel full for longer and eat less.
Suppressing glucagon secretion: Mounjaro reduces the release of glucagon from the pancreas, which helps to prevent the liver from releasing too much sugar into the bloodstream.

Mounjaro is primarily designed for weight loss and blood sugar regulation, but there is no strong evidence suggesting it can directly help with erectile dysfunction (ED). However,
some indirect effects of Mounjaro might positively impact ED in certain circumstances such as losing weight. Weight loss can help overall cardiovascular health and increase
testosterone levels, both of which are beneficial for sexual function.
